This week we catch up with Charleen French, editor of Hair Now, Perfect Hair and Hair & Beauty.

About you:

Describe a typical working day..
There is no such thing here! It varies from fun things like: writing features, attending launches, directing shoots, testing treatments and products and attending lovely industry events like the British Hairdressing Awards. Then there is the not so fun things like: flat-planning, subbing, invoices and long meetings – luckily the good outweighs the bad!

What interests you most about your job?
Definitely the variety and creativity, working for a small company means I have lots of autonomy and creative input, great for a young editor like me! I can really put my stamp on the magazines, which can only be a positive thing.

Where have you worked previously, and how did you end up in your current position?
I have worked on the magazines for over two years now and previous to that I did lots of internships and freelance jobs. I started out as a picture researcher, but working in small teams I got the opportunity to diversify into writing. When the position as editor came up a few months ago I jumped at the chance, I have been very lucky really.

What’s the best advice you’ve been given?
Work hard and be nice to people – I saw it on a poster so I don’t know if it constitutes as advice, but I try and live by that mantra.

What media do you seek out 1st thing in the morning?
I’m a blog girl; I read about 25 blogs a day! I also check my Twitter as soon as I get up.
