Aberdeen Journals has promoted Alan McCabe to editor of the Aberdeen Evening Express and Aberdeen Citizen.

McCabe, who was previously deputy editor, succeeds Damian Bates, who is now editor of sister title the Press and Journal.

McCabe started his journalism career as a trainee reporter for the Aberdeen Evening Express. He moved to the Daily Record as sports reporter, before returning to the Evening Express as chief sub-editor and assistant editor.
