BBC local stations to share programmes

By Staff

25th November 2010

Five local BBC radio stations are to temporarily network their weekday afternoon programmes as part of a six-month trial.

From Monday 6 December, two south-east stations, BBC Surrey and Sussex and BBC Radio Kent, will share a drivetime show presented by Dominic King. Locally tailored news bulletins will transmit during the drivetime show in each area.

Three Yorkshire stations, BBC Radio Leeds, BBC Radio York and BBC Radio Sheffield, will share an afternoon show fronted by Liz Green from February 2011.

Staff not working on the newly combined shows will be redeployed in their home stations. This is intended to bolster production and journalism efforts into the breakfast and mid-morning slots for the six month trial period.
