BBC Midlands Today editor joins BBC News

BBC Midlands Today editor Robert Thompson has left the role to become senior editor at BBC News.

Thompson was editor at the BBC regional news programme for two years and was previously assistant editor at BBC London and a producer at Newsround. He can be found tweeting @thomprobert.
