The BBC will appoint two dedicated social media producers to look after BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 1Xtra's social media platforms.

Ben Cooper, controller at the networks, said the role will involve acting as an author on the stations' Twitter, Facebook and other social media, engaging in a consistent two-way dialogue with its audience.

The news comes a week after the BBC stated it intends to increase BBC Radio 1's digital offering by introducing a dedicated channel for the station on BBC iPlayer.

BBC Radio 1 can be found tweeting @BBCR1 and BBC Radio 1Xtra @1Xtra.
