BBC Sport online relaunches
The BBC has relaunched BBC Sport online, putting live output at its heart.
The redesigned website was launched this morning and is the first major update of the site in over a decade. It aims to reflect the changing needs of sports fans as more and more go online for up-to-the-minute updates on sporting events, as they happen.
Key changes include a horizontal navigation bar, wider pages, more links to other sites, and colour-coded content with blue labels highlighting live coverage. It also incorporates the award-winning design already rolled out on other BBC websites including News, Weather and iPlayer.
The site will also have a greater focus on ‘social functionality’ with visitors benefitting from more easily shared content, and planned features, such as comment modules, to be added in the coming months. Tweets from BBC Sport correspondents are also prominently displayed.
The relaunch of BBC Sport is part of a wider 2012 innovation strategy in the build up to the London Olympic Games. Further web innovations and products for connected TVs and smartphones are planned for launch later this year.
