BBC World Service to launch Global Newsbeat
BBC World Service is to pilot global versions of BBC Radio 1's Newsbeat as part of an £8m investment into digital and multiplatform news programming at the network.
By extending Newsbeat on to the World Service, the BBC hopes to attract a younger audience to the network with radio bulletins aimed at 15 to 24 year olds. Global Newsbeat will be produced in African English, Swahili, Urdu and Pashto/Dari.
Newsbeat has been broadcast on BBC Radio 1 since 1973.
