Business desk appointments at Evening Standard, Indy, IoS and i

Appointments have been made in regard to the merged business and sport desks for the Evening Standard, The Independent, Independent on Sunday and i. The merged desks are part of proposals for synergies between the titles.

James Ashton, currently city editor of the London Evening Standard, has been appointed as head of business, whilst Jim Armitage, deputy city editor, has been appointed as deputy head of business.

Head of sport will be Neil Robinson, who’s currently sports editor of The Independent on Sunday, and the deputy head of sport will be Matt Gatward, presently sports editor of The Independent.

The two heads will work with the editors of the papers to formulate their departments and operation. It is expected that the departments will begin operating in their new structure from mid December.
