The BBC has appointed Charlotte Moore as controller of the corporation's flagship television channel, BBC One.

Moore was previously commissioning editor for documentaries and for knowledge on BBC Three before becoming acting controller of BBC One in May.

Tony Hall, BBC director-general said: “This is a very critical appointment. I was really excited by Charlotte’s ideas and vision, they have a boldness and originality that is absolutely what the channel should offer.”

Moore begins her role with immediate effect and is responsible for BBC One's strategy and the commissioning and scheduling of programmes.
