Former Channel 4 News editor returns to the BBC

The BBC has appointed Jim Gray as BBC head of TV current affairs and deputy to the head of news programmes.

Gray will take charge of current affairs, investigative journalism and interview programmes such as Newsnight and Panorama.

Until last year, Grey worked for ITN as editor of Channel 4 News for 14 years. Prior to that, he worked at BBC Radio 4 and as deputy editor at Newsnight during 17 years at the BBC.

Gray will begin his role in late summer.
