The Hertfordshire Mercury has promoted deputy editor Paul Brackley to the role of editor.

Brackley, who has reported for the Mercury since 2000, has previously served as chief reporter and news editor at the title.

Colin Grant, who had edited the Mercury for the past year, remains overall group editor-in-chief of Herts & Essex Newspapers, which includes the Hertfordshire Mercury.

Former chief reporter Abigayle Barber was recently promoted to the role of news editor at the Hertford-based paper.

The Hertfordshire Mercury is published weekly in four local editions and has a circulation of 28,074.
