By Laihan Burr Dixon

6th March 2008

James Hanning, executive editor (comment), has been appointed as deputy editor of the Independent on Sunday.

Hanning, who will continue to look after the comment pages, fills the position that has been vacant since former deputy editor, John Mullin, took over from Tristan Davies as editor at the end of last year.

Another addition to the team is Lisa Markwell. Currently features editor at IPC women’s magazine Easy Living, she will be joining the paper as executive editor.

Markwell will be starting next month with a brief to supervise arts and features coverage.

These appointments follow on from a number of hirings by Mullin. Jane Merrick as political editor, Margareta Pagano as business editor and Matthew Bell as diarist.
