The Independent on Sunday’s deputy business editor, Simon Evans has been appointed head of business media at PR agency, Weber Shandwick.

Evans, who had worked for the IoS for three years, left on 28 June. His new role will be to “strengthen the firm’s strategic media capabilities and provide corporate counsel to key clients across the UK & Ireland region”.

Evans was previously senior city correspondent of London’s free daily business newspaper, City A.M. In 2009, he was named the Association of British Insurers’ Business Journalist of the Year.
