ITV News has appointed Rageh Omaar as international affairs editor and will launch an international monthly current affairs programme on ITV.

'On Assignment' will be fronted by Omaar and produced by ITV News. The programme will consist of long-form reports on stories dominating the news agenda. The focus will be on international coverage but will include some stories from the UK, reported on by journalists working across ITV News.

The monthly strand will be broadcast as a 30 minute slot from March at 22:35.

Omaar was previously a special correspondent at ITV News. He will be based in London and work alongside Europe editor James Mates and diplomatic correspondent John Ray.
