Johnston Press has sold its Republic of Ireland newspapers to Iconic Newspapers Limited.

The publisher sold fourteen titles overall, including the Limerick Leader, Limerick ChronicleDonegal Democrat and the Kilkenny People. Northern Ireland titles, such as the Derry Journal, were not part of the sale.

Owner of Iconic Newspapers Malcolm Denmark said of the deal: “We want to get more involved in and re-engage with the communities where more investment is needed […] It’s really important that we are not part of a corporate group. I am not trying to bring an English solution to Ireland.”
