Jones to lead London and Essex weeklies

Tim Jones has been promoted to group editor of Newsquest titles in East London and West Essex.

Jones, formerly deputy group editor on the the Times and Independent series in North London, will take over from Richard Firth, who is leaving to become a sub-editor at The Sun.

Jones has been at Newsquest since 2009, and previously worked for the Coventry Observer and Northampton Chronicle & Echo. Firth has been group editor since March this year, overseeing the Epping Forest Guardian and Independent, and other Guardian titles based in Waltham Forest, Chingford, Wanstead and Woodford.
