Midlands-based communications agency McCann Birmingham scooped three gongs at the international Kinsale Shark Awards this weekend, including gold for Best Scriptwriting.

Now in their 50th year, the Kinsale Shark Awards recognise creativity in the industry and contribute to rankings in the Gunn Report, the independent report on global creative excellence in advertising. McCann Birmingham was shortlisted in three categories in Saturday’s ceremony and walked away with three trophies: the international gold award in Best Scriptwriting for Fresh Mums, bronze for the same campaign in Best Online Film, and bronze for Best Use of Innovative Media for Astra GTC.

McCann’s bronze for Best Use of Innovative Media related to its Astra GTC pitch invasion advert, which utilised 3D mats at Wembley Stadium and appeared as if it were a broadcast error during half time of an England v Wales match at Wembley Stadium.
