David Helliwell, currently editor of the Blackpool Gazette and Reporter, has been named as the new editor of the News & Star in Carlisle.

He replaces Neil Hodgkinson, who left to become editor of the Hull Daily Mail earlier this year.

Helliwell will also take on the editorship of the News & Star’s sister title, the Cumberland News.
