Two Birds One Stone, the youth division of Good Relations North, has been appointed by NHS Wakefield District to handle the PR for its Smokefree Wakefield campaign.

The eight-month campaign, which begins in September, aims to create an environment that prevents young people from starting smoking by strengthening community norms. Smoking is the single greatest cause of preventable illness and premature death in Wakefield; it accounts for one in five total deaths. Two Birds One Stone has been appointed to strengthen community knowledge, behaviours and attitudes towards illicit tobacco and raise awareness of services that can help smokers quit.

Rashesh Mehta, public health commissioning manager for Tobacco Control, said, "We were extremely impressed with the creativity and fresh approach that the Two Birds One Stone team brought to this campaign. They have experience in campaigns that change behaviour and we are confident that they can make Smokefree Wakefield a success."

Adam Burns, youth marketing specialist at Two Birds One Stone, said, "We have again shown that we can compete with some of the biggest agencies in the North and that clients see the value in a specific youth offering. Our team is made up of young professionals, recent graduates and students and for the right client our approach can be refreshing."
