Paul Potts is to stand down as chief executive of PA Group, owner of the UK news agency Press Association, in January next year.

Potts is due to retire on his 60th birthday in 2010. He has served on the PA Group board since 1995 as editor in chief and from 2000 as chief executive.

He previously had a dual role as chairman and chief executive, until Tim Bowdler, a former chief executive of Johnston Press, was appointed as non-executive chairman in January this year.
