News International has promoted Rebekah Wade, the editor of The Sun, to the position of chief executive.

Wade will taken on responsibility for News International titles The Sun, The Times, The Sunday Times, News of the World and thelondonpaper from 1 September.

A replacement at The Sun is yet to be announced.
