Telegraph to merge Sunday and daily newspapers
Telegraph Media Group is to move to a seven-day operation, merging its daily and Sunday titles in a restructure that will see 80 editorial jobs axed.
Chief executive Murdoch MacLennan also announced the creation of 50 digital jobs as part of an £8 million investment to complete transition to a digital business.
The restructure will see the creation of a director of content role filled by executive editor Richard Ellis until a permanent appointment is made. Daily Telegraph editor Tony Gallagher and Sunday Telegraph editor Ian MacGregor will report to Ellis.
The director of content will be responsible for overseeing “the establishment of an all-encompassing operation to transform newsroom culture into a dynamic process with our digital products at its core”.
