The Irish Times appoints deputy editor

Denis Staunton has been appointed deputy editor of The Irish Times.

Prior to his appointment he was foreign editor at the title; he has also worked as Washington correspondent, European correspondent and Berlin correspondent. Staunton will serve on the board of The Irish Times Limited in his new role.

Staunton replaces Paul O’Neill who has been appointed editorial director. He will be responsible for editorial operations and content development. He will oversee the integration of The Irish Times and irishtimes.com, and the differentiation of content across print and digital.

O’Neill has previously held the business editor, deputy news editor, and crime correspondent posts.
