Trinity Mirror creates new publishing business

Trinity Mirror has announced that it is to combine the Scottish Daily Record and Sunday Mail and sister company Scottish and Universal Newspapers, forming Scotland’s biggest publishing business – Media Scotland.

The new company incorporates titles the Daily Record and Sunday Mail as well as a portfolio of twenty other local newspapers including the Ayrshire Post, West Lothian Courier, Hamilton Advertiser and Paisley Daily Express; Business Insider magazine, an events division and 36 vibrant local and commercial websites.

Media Scotland hopes to reach 1.5 million readers on weekdays and 1.1 million on Sundays along with 2.6 million unique digital users per month.

The merger has resulted in significant changes to editorial staff at the publications affected.

As a result of this Bruce Waddell, editor in chief of the Scottish Daily Record and Sunday Mail is leaving the business after eight years. Prior to his time with Trinity Mirror he was editor of The Scottish Sun for five years.
