Trinity Mirror to acquire GMG Regional Media

Publisher Trinity Mirror is to buy the Guardian Media Group’s Regional Media subsidiary, which comprises of MEN Media in the North West of England and S&B Media in the South.

Among those titles to be sold to Trinity Mirror are the Manchester Evening News and the Reading Post. The deal excludes Channel M, the TV station for Greater Manchester, and newspapers the Woking News and Mail and the Woking Review.

S&B Media will be managed by Trinity Mirror Southern, Trinity’s existing publishing business in the South of England, whilst MEN Media will
become a stand-alone subsidiary of Trinity Mirror rather than being incorporated into its North West division.

The deal is to be completed on 28 March 2010.

David Sharrock, currently chief operating officer of GMG Regional Media, has been appointed as managing director of MEN Media as Ruth Spratt leaves the role. Mark Dodson, chief executive of GMG Regional Media, will leave the company.

GMG Regional Media publishes 22 newspapers for the north-west of England and 10 titles in the south of England. Trinity Mirror’s portfolio includes 120 regional newspapers and five nationals across Great Britain.
