Astron Clinica launches new telemedicine system to support SIAscopy

  • Thursday, 13 October 2005

2nd Opinion, Astron Clinica’s new telemedicine system, supports remote clinical assistance and diagnosis for SIAscopy by enabling the secure transport of SIAscans and additional relevant information using Adobe Acrobat PDF technology. A clinical specialist can review a patients lesions despite being many miles away from the patient, making it easier for patients to secure the clinical opinion of their choice and avoiding wasted clinic and patient time by providing expert advise as to the need to attend a specialist dermatology clinic. 2nd Opinion ensures the best practice of security is maintained as patient records move between scanning and assessment.

2nd Opinion packages together detailed information comprising SIAscans, clinical photographs and patient history for despatch to the remote expert. 2nd Opinion monitors progress and returns and records a diagnosis or opinion with the patient’s records in a controlled, timely manner. This workflow management keeps the clinic and the remote expert synchronised and keeps delay and cost to a minimum.

‘This is an exciting new product that research shows will be very valuable to users of SIAscopy.’ Said Annie Brooking, CEO Astron Clinica. ‘I believe that one day, it will be common for everyone to have a stored series of SIAscans showing the health of their skin over their lifetime. 2nd Opinion is designed to make it as easy as possible for patients to receive expert opinion, and for experts to maximise the best use of their time.’

Designed to support all of the DERMETRICS product families, 2nd Opinion allows SIAscopy to be taken into the field and can be used for expert opinion on melanoma, BCC and all of DERMETRICS skin condition products.
