Growing a business without outgrowing the home
In episode 6 of Enterprise Nation, the homeworking podcast, Emma Jones asks if you can grow a home-based business without outgrowing the home?
Emma, editor of the homeworking website at www.enterprisenation.com, offers four options that have been developed ‘in-house’ by experienced business owners and show how you really can have it all - without leaving home.
The four options to help any home business owner achieve home grown success are:
1. Focus on what you do best and outsource the rest.
The ‘rest’ might be things like accounting, administration, business development, design – areas of work that may not be your speciality so can be done faster and cheaper by someone who is a specialist in the field.
2. Hire employees and have them work from your home.
This approach has worked for a number of businesses profiled at www.enterprisenation.com including The Fudge Kitchen and Anwick Forge. It is an approach that may require an extension to your house and so checking to see if you need planning permission.
3. Hire employees and have them work from their own home.
This is the approach taken by the team at Enterprise Nation who, in between team meetings at their home HQ Redbrick House, keep in daily contact using tools such as Basecamp and Skype.
4. Hire employees and have them work in an office, while you stay at home.
This is just what Jayne Lawton, founder of fast growing business, Grobox, has done. Her company sells boxed gardens in the UK and across the globe with Jayne managing a team of experts in manufacturing, sales and distribution from the comfort of her kitchen table.
Maybe one of these options could work for you as you take your home business to its next new level of growth and success.
Enterprise Nation will be hosting a week long campaign focused on ‘Going for Growth’ for home business owners from week commencing Monday 26th March.
