One Week to go Until the Winners of the 25th British Hairdressing Awards are Announced

  • Monday, 16 November 2009

To have reached our 25th Anniversary is a tremendous testament to the continued talent within the British hairdressing industry

The anticipation and waiting for hairdressers throughout the UK will shortly be over, as on Monday 23rd November 2009, at a glittering awards ceremony held at the Grosvenor House, a JW Marriott Hotel in London’s Park Lane, the winners of the 25th British Hairdressing Awards will be announced.

The British Hairdressing Awards is the ‘Oscars’ of the British hairdressing industry, an industry that is envied throughout the world for its creativity and originality. Now in its 25th year, the British Hairdressing Awards presented by Hairdressers Journal International and sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional celebrate the best in British hairdressing recognising and rewarding hairdressers throughout the UK within the nine regional categories, six specialist categories including Newcomer of the Year, Men’s Hairdresser of the Year and the Schwarzkopf Professional Colour Technician of the Year, and the coveted British Hairdresser of the Year title.

This year Andrew Barton, Errol Douglas, Mark Hayes, Akin Konizi, Lisa Shepherd, Angelo Seminara, Phil Smith and Gary Hooker & Michael Young all hope to follow in the footsteps of industry icons Trevor Sorbie, Charles Worthington, Andrew Collinge, Nicky Clarke and John Frieda to win the prestigious title of British Hairdresser of the Year.

Following a cocktail reception, a gourmet dinner and entertainment - the sixteen regional and specialist category awards are announced by one of the most popular personalities in the media. This year the British Hairdressing Awards Hall of Fame will have two new inductees – hairdressers who have won their category three times, Claire Rothstein for Afro Hairdresser of the Year and Tracey Devine for Scottish Hairdresser of the Year.

The 2008 British Hairdressing Awards is a night the current British Hairdresser of the Year, Akin Konizi won’t forget. A jubilant Akin commented, “Winning British Hairdresser of the Year will definitely go down as one of those monumental moments, not only in my career, but in my whole life! Having been striving to win the title since being nominated in 2006, it was a mix of excitement, delight, relief and disbelief! This award means so much to me as it’s the culmination of so many years of hard work having been recognised by my peers and to realise that so many people had nominated and/or voted for me was truly humbling. These awards are the most anticipated night of the British hairdressing calendar and to be British Hairdresser of the Year is a real honour, which I hope to be a good ambassador for.”

Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of Hairdressers Journal International Jayne Lewis-Orr adds, “Each year the standard of work gets better and better and this year is no exception. We are so proud that British hairdressing has tremendous standing within the rest of the world and the British Hairdressing Awards prove that British is definitely best! To have reached our 25th Anniversary is a tremendous testament to the continued talent within the British hairdressing industry.“
