UK Goes Wild for Winter Boots

  • Saturday, 28 November 2009

Now that winter is here, ladies winter boots have become the must have fashion item overnight as the clear skies have caused temperatures to drop, sparking a surge in the demand for warm clothing to coincide with Christmas and the approaching ski season.

Last year the UK was frozen to a standstill as flooding was followed by frost and snow, bringing the country to a halt as people were forced to find alternative forms of transport or simply take the day off work or school and play in the snow instead.

This year it seems, people have prepared for the worst and ordered their snow boots in good time.

Made from the finest fabrics with rich fur linings and a series of unique and elegant designs, winter boots are the must have addition to every outfit in the cold weather conditions.

Originally designed to be worn for walking around a ski resort, ladies winter boots are beautifully styled and feature insulating layers to hold in heat while being completely waterproof with excellent grip to prevent slipping on the ice or getting stuck in the snow. This makes them perfect for the British winter where sleet, snow and icy footpaths are common place.

Meanwhile, men’s winter boots are derived from technical walking boots featuring more rugged, hard wearing builds for trudging through the snow to the shops and shovelling snow out of the drive way.

Hertfordshire based retailer Fitness Footwear has been selling record numbers of winter boots in the build up to Christmas, finding that despite the recession, many of their customers are happy to pay a little more for the extra comfort and performance a pair of fine quality winter boots can provide.

“We offer a huge choice of winter boots” said Luke Barlow, Fitness Footwear MD, “but it’s the premium styles that everybody wants.”

Winter boots have proven to be a unique product, combining high fashion with high performance and usually a suitably high price point to match.

“Some of the fashion styles of winter boots aren’t cheap,” he added, “but you get what you pay for whether it’s branding, good looks, extra insulation or better materials.”

With another Mega Monday predicted to kick-start Christmas shopping in December, retailers are hoping this will bring about an end to the difficult consumer climate brought about by recession. As a luxury item, early sales of winter boots may herald a Merry Christmas for retailers everywhere.
