If exotic and out-of-the-ordinary sums up your dream wedding, Fiji has the answer
25th February 2010
If exotic and out-of-the-ordinary sums up your dream wedding, Fiji has the answer, and two significant new developments in mean there has never been a better time to choose it.
Last year, the Fijian government devalued the local currency by 20 per cent, meaning your budget goes one fifth as far again. Plus, the national carrier, Air Pacific, has just launched a new twice-weekly route via Hong Kong, so the islands are more convenient to reach than ever before.
• Picture this… 333 picture–postcard islands in the South Pacific combine tropical paradise, dramatic scenery and sunset backdrops - all the perfect wedding photo settings you could hope for! The islands enjoy average temperatures of 25 degrees Celsius, and are mainly dry from May to October.
• Venue…Sandbanks, tropical rainforests, glass-sided chapels, traditional churches, underwater spaces, secluded beaches, decorated boats. Everything from barefoot to ballroom.
• Serve… the local cuisine - exciting flavours for a Wedding Breakfast with a difference. Consider a ‘Lovo’ – a Fijian banquet with food prepared in an underground oven, wrapped in banana leaves and cooked slowly on hot stones, served on the beach.
• Toast… with Kava (but not as we know it) - Fiji’s national drink and central to their culture served from a ceremonial bowl. Wine imported from nearby Australia and New Zealand is high quality and affordable.
• Entertain… with fire-walking ceremonies, Fijian warriors, Fijian choirs, adorned traditional costumes and unique cultural ceremonies, excursions on decorated traditional rafts….
• Rest and recuperate…Value-for-money accommodation ranging from budget to all-inclusive to luxury hotels and private island resorts.
The official-side of wedding preparations in Fiji is no headache either: -
• Stress-free…Many resorts offer the services of a wedding co-ordinator to tailor the day to the couple’s requirements, whether it is a private celebration for two, or a more extended wedding party. Fijians speak excellent English and are known for their warmth and hospitality.
• Hassle-free…Ceremonies in Fiji are recognised worldwide, and there are no complicated residency laws. Collect a wedding certificate 36 hours before the ceremony by showing a minimum of paperwork. The license costs from F$30 and hotel packages range from approximately F$250 – F$3000. There are currently around 3F$ to one GBP(£).
• Jab-free… No need for vaccinations for visitors from the UK.
And it doesn’t end there…..Fiji is also one of the world’s most popular honeymoon destinations famous for stunning volcanic islands, powder beaches and clear turquoise seas. She is home to a host of uber-romantic island resorts for all budgets with just a few bungalows nestled on perfect beaches only accessible by boat or sea-plane. For the more adventurous, Fiji is considered to be one of the world’s top dive destinations as well as offering a range of world class activities from hot air ballooning to white water rafting.
So with Fiji’s 333 beautiful Pacific islands now closer and more affordable than ever before… what’s stopping you?
