We realise that most small companies don’t have a large budget for marketing and PR; this guide will help businesses promote themselves on a shoestring

Daryl Willcox Publishing, the company that connects journalists and public relations professionals to create press opportunities, has released a DIY whitepaper to help budget-conscious small businesses do their own PR.

The whitepaper is aimed at small businesses and startups wanting to promote themselves in the press. It defines why PR is beneficial, provides a step by step ‘how to’ guide to writing a press release and details how small businesses should go about contacting members of the media with their news.

Additionally, the whitepaper describes how companies can apply social media strategies and use other PR tools such as blogging to connect with customers. It also shows how to use audio and visual formats to present messages in different ways.

“We’ve released several whitepapers but this is the first with a specific focus on helping small businesses and startups,” said Daryl Willcox, founder of Daryl Willcox Publishing. “We realise that most small companies don’t have a large budget for marketing and PR; this guide will help businesses promote themselves on a shoestring.”

Independent PR consultant Jane Lee wrote the whitepaper for Daryl Willcox Publishing. “In my experience public relations are about common sense and persistence,” she said. “Those who read the whitepaper will find practical tips on how to locate and approach relevant journalists to get their products and services into the press, or they can use it to understand what to expect from any PR professional they might employ.”
