Monday 8th March 2010 – Swindon, United Kingdom – Mike Buss has just announced his latest challenge which will push the limits of human endurance yet again! Mike is entered into the Brighton and London Marathons. Nothing unusual about this but he will start out from his home town of Swindon, running through the night and arriving at the start line of the Brighton Marathon just in time to start with all the other competitors. After crossing the finish line, Mike will continue running 57miles to London! This shows why Mike’s Challenges have become known as ‘Beyond Impossible’…
Once Mike Buss has arrived in London in the early hours of Monday morning, he will stay in London for the rest of the week to prepare for the London Marathon. Once again, when he crosses the finish line, he will carry on running back to his home town of Swindon - another 82 miles!
Most people lining up for both the Brighton and London Marathons will do a 15 minute warm up at the start line, but Mike’s warm-ups before both marathons are actually more than double the distance of a 26.2 mile marathon.
For Mike this is just another day at the office as he is an Ultra Runner and Multiple World Record Holder who is fast becoming the UK’s answer to Dean Karnazes, a best selling author and voted #27 in Time Magazine’s poll of Most Influential People. See www.ultramarathonman.com
Mike Buss has already seen recognition for his challenges which he does for his chosen Charity Help for Heroes where he hopes to raise a staggering £1,000,000 by 2014! Mike has been nominated for Wiltshire Life Magazine's Lifetime Achievement Award at only 35yrs of age. He has also been nominated for The Pride of Swindon Awards,
Mike’s Challenges won't stop here. He is already in preparation to run 100 marathons in 100 days in over 15 towns around the UK starting in Swindon on June 16th and finishing on September 23rd in Birmingham at the Leisure Industry Week hosted at the Birmingham NEC. For details of his itinerary see www.mike-buss.com or call 07791 545550
When asked why he pushes himself to limits most people thought impossible Mike says ‘I was medically discharged from the Army after being injured by a car bomb in Northern Ireland. I was gutted to leave and found it such a struggle that I ended up homeless on the streets of London. I know many other soldiers struggle just like this when they reach Civvy Street and then there are the soldiers coming back from Afghanistan with missing limbs. I do it for them! I can’t stand in line shoulder to shoulder anymore but I can still do my bit for Queen and Country, supporting those brave men and women on operations in Afghanistan.’
Mike adds ‘I also do this to show in an extreme way that anything is possible and that if you have a belief in yourself that you can achieve anything in life! I am a passionate believer that if you believe you will achieve, whether it’s a 5 km fun run or a 500mile race it doesn’t matter, I really believe anyone can run 500miles. I’m not the only one that has done this all you need is inspiration and motivation.’
Mike’s challenges have secured the support of JEEP (Mike’s major sponsor) along with Saucony, ISO2 Nutrition, Berghaus, Cliffbar, Saucony and several others. You can follow Mike on his official website www.mike-buss.com or Mike’s facebook or twitter pages.

Editor’s note - Athlete’s Task Ahead
Endurance athlete Mike Buss has now beaten nine world records since September 2009 and raised £13,500. He supports Help for Heroes because he was medically discharged from the army ten years ago when an IRA bomb caused deafness in one ear. At that time, the support for injured military personnel wasn’t particularly good. He is on a mission to:
• Break 20 world endurance records in just 12 months (a feat that has never been achieved before).
• Raise £100,000 in support of Help for Heroes by the end of 2010 and just over £1,000,000 by 2014.
• Take on many of the world’s toughest challenges including the ‘Marathon Des Sables’ across the Sahara desert in 2011.
• Finish a world record breaking 5 yr campaign by climbing Mount Everest in 2014.
SWINDON is only six miles from WOOTTON BASSETT, the market town famed worldwide for the respectful way in which residents and visitors support mourning families of dead soldiers being repatriated from Afghanistan through RAF Lyneham.
