VOTE FOR YOUR NATION’S FAVOURITE SWEET

  • Tuesday, 09 March 2010

Jackie Davies, owner of The Sweetie Jar

Do we all have the same tastes in sweets? That’s the question being asked by new online confectionery website The Sweetie Jar which today (9th March) launched a poll to find the UK’s favourite sweets by nation.

The poll is designed to discover each country’s favourite sweet and determine whether there is a difference of opinion in the top choices selected by English, Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish people.

Anyone from the four nations can vote for their best-loved sweets through the online poll and one lucky voter will also win a year’s supply of their preferred confectionery.

The voting is set to run for three months, ensuring everyone gets their chance to put forward their top sugary treat.

Jackie Davies, the owner of The Sweetie Jar, is the brainchild behind the poll.
She set up the website in December so people could rediscover their favourite childhood sweets.

As a child Jackie remembers visiting her local sweetshop and seeing a fantastic choice of exciting sweets such as mojos, shrimps and porky pigs along with white mice, chewing nuts, lemon bonbons, fruit salads, kola kubes and many more.

“Nowadays it can be more difficult to find certain sweets with the disappearance of local sweetshops,” said Jackie. “But I wanted to ensure that everyone can still buy almost any sweet through our website, especially classic retro ones.

“People have completely different tastes in sweets, whether it’s because a particular sweet reminds them of their childhood or because it simply tantalises their taste buds.
“We’re on a real mission to find out what each nation’s favourite sweet is through our poll and I can’t wait to see what people pick.

“It will be fascinating to see if all four countries vote for the same sweet or if there is a distinct difference in preferences.”

Along with one lucky voter winning a year’s worth of sweets, jars of sweets will also be given away at random to voters and everyone who participates will receive 10% off all products available at The Sweetie Jar.

Each country’s favourite sweet will be announced on 30th June 2010 along with the winner of the year’s worth of sweets.
