Visitors to Nicholas James’ Hatton Garden showroom will be able to admire the splendour of this unique bridal gown valued at nearly £100,000. Japanese artisans patiently weaved microscopic threads of platinum to obtain this enchanting fabric

Award winning jeweller Nicholas James has been selected to exclusively display a stunning wedding dress created from the rarest and purest of metals courtesy of Platinum Guild International during this year’s Hatton Garden Jewellery Week.

Visitors to Nicholas James’ Hatton Garden showroom will be able to admire the splendour of this unique bridal gown valued at nearly £100,000. Japanese artisans patiently weaved microscopic threads of platinum to obtain this enchanting fabric. The precious ‘cloth’ was transformed by the talented Italian couturier, Domo Adami. In perfect harmony with the characteristics of the fabric used, this sumptuous gown marries exceptional craftsmanship and modern design, that’s underlined by soft lines and great creative imagination.

Additionally during Jewellery Week, Nicholas James will be providing a rare opportunity to see a ‘work in progress’ of their latest collaboration with titanium cycle specialist, Enigma. The new project is a bespoke creation incorporating over 12 carats of rough diamonds set into the frame, accessorised with 18ct gold plated parts and trims.

Nicholas James will also be launching a stylish range of men’s bands in the exciting white metal, palladium. Virtually unheard of a few years ago palladium is now officially recognised as a precious metal and since 1st January 2010 legally requires a hallmark, the same as fine jewellery made from gold and platinum. Discovered in 1803 and named after Pallas Athena – the goddess of wisdom and war - her image is used as the palladium hallmark at the UK Assay Offices.

This naturally white, 95% pure metal is from the same family as platinum. One significant advantage of palladium is that it is priced similarly to 14 carat gold, so offers a tempting alternative to platinum at today’s prices. Yet the metal itself is in fact several times rarer than gold and boasts a multitude of benefits. As the credibility of an independent UK hallmark guarantees the metal’s quality to an international standard, Palladium is gaining significant attention and Nicholas James is at the forefront of these developments.

Nick Fitch, creative force behind Nicholas James explains: “Palladium’s unique properties are opening up some really fantastic opportunities for innovative jewellery design. The metal itself never tarnishes and is whiter, lighter and about 12% harder than platinum. Therefore it’s ideal for creating men’s rings as it allows less metal to create a bigger, more robust and masculine look - perfect for the larger finger sizes and band widths associated with men’s rings. Palladium’s lighter weight also makes it extremely comfortable to wear. We’re looking to further develop our palladium range and create exclusive statement ring designs in this exciting new metal.”

During the Hatton Garden Festival the showroom will be offering a complimentary dram from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society and the chance to win a limited edition sterling silver Nicholas James keyring worth £295.
