Be prepared….it’s just two weeks until Jeans for Genes Day! Friday 6th October

The annual one-day appeal, which encourages everyone to dress up in denim will soon be upon us! Jeans for Genes Day is on Friday 6th October. On that day, all over the UK, children will abandon the school uniform, people at work will ditch the suit or the usual dress code and wear jeans instead to raise money for charity.

By making a small donation (£1 from children and £2 from adults) to take part in Jeans for Genes Day, millions of people will be helping to raise funds for medical research into the causes and treatment of genetic disorders which affect children.

Jeans for Genes has been going for over ten years and has raised over £24million so far. The charity has helped with pioneering research into a variety of medical conditions such as cystic fibrosis and muscular dystrophy. There are over 4,000 known genetic conditions and others which are simply referred to by medical professionals as SWAN – Syndromes without a name. One baby in 33 in UK is born with a genetic disorder, many of which have no cure.

Actress Tamzin Outhwaite has fronted this year’s Appeal and is urging supporters to prepare for the day and ‘Dress to Impress’ with a bit of glitz, glamour, bling and bravado! Further celebrity support comes from singer Javine, who, with footballer Ian Wright was voted Rear of the Year – both sporting the Jeans for Genes logo on their winning bottoms.

To take part all you have to do is register on the Appeal’s freephone hotline: 0800 980 4800 or log onto the website: www.jeansforgenes.com to receive a free fundraising pack.

Ten national charities will benefit from Jeans for Genes Day 2006. The Appeal aims to raise £4million this year which will be distributed amongst them and spent on medical research, support and respite for families with children affected by genetic disorders.
