Eileen Carroll and Karl Mackie launch International Mediation - The Art of Business Diplomacy in New York
- Monday, 18 September 2006
At the International Mediation conference held today at The Yale Club of New York, in conjunction with the American Bar Association Section of International Law, Eileen Carroll and Karl Mackie of CEDR launched the second edition of their acclaimed guide.
Fully revised and up-to-date this new edition, following the original 2000 publication, covers recent case studies, the relevant model mediation and arbitration codes, contract clauses and contains brand-new sections on recent cases and materials, breaking deadlock, the economics of mediation, business and institutional applications, plus preparing for success in mediation.
Written by two acclaimed international mediation experts, Eileen Carroll and Karl Mackie, respectively Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Executive of CEDR, the book has been updated to be an essential guide to the effective and timely resolution of international business disputes. Outlining the characteristics of mediation and highlighting its place in business disputes, this highly practical book is designed to steer readers clearly through the mediation process and sets it in a real business context.
The Second Edition provides business managers with the opportunity to learn from experts with more than a decade’s successful mediation experience. The book guides the reader, step-by-step, through the mediation process. Model mediation clauses are provided that you can adapt to contracts and ways identified to save companies time and money – successfully resolving disputes - without the need for costly litigation or arbitration.
Francis Neate, President, International Bar Association commented on the book, “Required reading for any practitioner engaged in the dispute resolution process.”
Michael Clancy, Oil, Gas & Energy Law Intelligence, said of the first edition, "It forms a landmark guide to practitioners in international mediation and is likely to form a reference guide to mediation procedures."
Hans U. Stucki, Lawyer, Chicago, USA, reviewed the book saying it was, “The kind of groundwork publication that is necessary to the institutionalisation of mediation and other interest-based dispute resolution into professional and business cultures.”
Sir Laurence Street, AC, KCMG, Sydney, Australia, said of it, "This book is an outstanding contribution to understanding and practice of the newly evolving and important mechanism of International Commercial Mediation."
The Second Edition of International Mediation – The Art of Business Diplomacy by Eileen Carroll and Karl Mackie is published by Tottel Publishing in the UK and Kluwer Law elsewhere and is available to purchase on the CEDR website.
