THE WORLDS SMALLEST LARGE FORMAT PRINT GALLERY

London, 21 January 2010 – The launch of One2Fifty.com, a gallery with a difference created by landscape artist David Anthony Hall, which exhibits much of his work in a most unusual way. By exploring the relationship between large format print, photography and the Internet, Hall has created a bespoke gallery to showcase his images by shrinking everything on a scale of 1:50 to create the worlds smallest large format print gallery. The launch of the virtual gallery has gone viral creating not only extreme interest in the exhibition itself but also in a You Tube video on the making of it.

David Anthony Hall, the creative, Irish born photographer has showcased his images in the most unusual way, by producing possibly the world’s smallest large format print gallery. The One2Fifty.com gallery was created because Hall wanted to explore the relationship between large print, the Internet and his work.

Hall’s images are normally between two and three metres wide, which can cause difficulty when trying to show the scale of his work in certain situations. By reproducing his large format work on a scale of 1:50 and placing it in a virtual gallery with people scaled to size to represent the average viewer, Hall hopes to impart on his audience the sheer scale and size of the images he takes. Whilst Hall acknowledges the best way to view art is in person, he also recognises, for his work, this isn’t as easy as it sounds. “By the very nature of my work scale plays an important factor, says Hall “Hanging the images in the wrong space, either too big or too small has a detrimental effect on, not only the image, but how the image makes you feel. Galleries spend a great deal of time and money on trying to get this aspect right and this started me thinking about how I could create the most perfect gallery to hang my work, and also to show the actual size and scale of the work in relation to the people viewing it. With One2Fifty.com I’ve scaled everything down from three metres to seven centimetres in an attempt to reflect the overall finished size of my work on a computer screen”.

The launch of the One2Fifty exhibition has gone viral after initially sending just a few invitations to view his exhibition to colleagues and friends. Hall has been amazed at how much interest One2fifty has created with nearly 7500 hits to the website in just a few days since the launch. To show how the process was created Hall has uploaded a video to YouTube which highlights just how small the figures in the exhibition really are and brings to life the whole concept of One2Fifty. The images in his gallery have all been printed on his 44” Canon iPF8100, normally used to reproduce his full size prints. The whole gallery is around two cubic metres in size and hangs 28 of his images, many of which are new work still currently unreleased for sale.

Hall certainly is not short of galleries to work with him, this year his work is been submitted by a Brussels based gallery as part of their Paris Photo application, he has exhibited in seven countries and his work has been shipped to more than ten countries. Last year he had his first Westend solo show with Thompson’s Gallery in the London. It was through Thompson’s Gallery that Hall’s charitable piece Autumn Light was sold, dedicated to the memory of his natural father Antonio Senezio who died in 2007 after losing his battle with cancer. Autumn Light raised £9000, with all the proceeds going to three cancer charities.

Hall’s next exhibition will on February 18th – 21st at the 20/21 International Art Fair at the Royal College of Art, in Kensington Gore, London.

About David Anthony Hall

The Dublin born Hall, after many years as a still life photographer, turned his back on the commercial work in favour of his passion for taking photographs of natural landscape. These images are often of ancient trees, or landscape that tells a story of some long forgotten time. Hall may visit a location many times to extract the perfect lighting conditions to capture the right shot. Hall employs a panoramic technique to capture a multitude of shots that go into the one final image which he later weaves together in his digital darkroom. Acutely aware of how time ebbs away from all of us, Hall is intent on capturing places where life has its own momentum. “I want my work to represent my emotional attachment to the forces on our planet and our fleeting presence on it, to be able to connect the viewer just for a moment with the beauty found outside their busy daily lives. These landscapes have seen many generations come and go and I want them to see many more.”

Halls work is printed on his Canon iPF8100 and finished by ‘Face Mounted on to Perspex’ a process where the finished print is sandwiched between a piece of Perspex and Diabond aluminium backing sheet. This process helps to protect the image from UV light while adding a unique three dimensional effect to the work. Recent research by US based Wilhelm Research suggest that a colour print from a Canon 12 colour Image PROGRAF iFP6100*on gloss media under a Perspex substrate could offer a light fastness of 176 years.

*(the Canon Image PROGRAF iPF6100 is the smaller version of the iPF8100 using the same ink technology)
