RSS Feeds of Press Release Categories
The Response Source/SourceWire Press Release Wire is available as a direct feed to your computer using a standard known as RSS.
The benefit of the RSS press release feed for journalists is that it can bring press releases to your attention as they are issued without clogging up your email inbox. You also have control over what press releases you get.
Using RSS
The original meaning of the RSS acronym is a matter of debate but it is generally now referred to a 'really simple syndication'. The problem is, it isn't actually that simple to set up! But it is worth persevering. In order to see an RSS feed you need an 'RSS reader'. You can download many of these for free. Or you could use a web-based reader like Google Reader. To subscribe to one of our feeds, right-click on one of the feed names and select "Copy Shortcut" or "Copy Link Location" to copy the location (URL) of the feed. Then paste this into the appropriate place in your reader - exactly how to do this may vary from one reader to the next.
Firefox
An easy way to see RSS feeds is to use the Firefox web browser. This has RSS reader capability built-in. Firefox can display RSS feeds as what it calls 'Live Bookmarks'. Firefox can also detect RSS feeds if websites are set up to take advantage of this. Look out for a special logo on the bottom-right of the Firefox browser window.
Releases on your website or intranet
The Response Source/SourceWire Press Release Wire RSS feeds can also be incorporated on public websites or internal organisation websites (intranets). If you would like to integrate the feed all you have to do is create a Custom Feed. Once you have selected your categories and/or keywords you will have created the few lines of code which you can then insert into your web page. All we ask is that you display the Response Source and/or SourceWire logos next to the list of releases. We'd also love to hear from anyone who is using our feeds on their site.
For PR people
Our RSS feeds are a real benefit to PR people as they provide yet another way for your releases to reach journalists. Also, a dedicated RSS feed just for your company is provided - in effect you get a free RSS feed of your own if you use our press release wire regularly. (Take a look at one of your releases on Response Source or SourceWire and click on the 'View all releases submitted by.' link. This takes you to a page with an RSS link just for your releases.) You could even incorporate this feed on your own website.
