Scottish highlands paper moves to employee ownership
Scottish newspaper, the West Highland Free Press, has been bought out by its own employees.
Ten staff at the paper bought shares in West Highland Publishing Company Ltd from the original five shareholders who set it up in 1972.
The paper stated that this would “ensure that the paper remains independent and rooted in the community.”
Brian Wilson, the paper’s founding editor, said, “This is the right thing to do and the right time to do it. We wanted the paper to remain independent while offering a great opportunity to the employees who have served it loyally.”
West Highland Free Press is a weekly newspaper available within the West Highlands and Islands, and throughout Scotland.
