Freelance Journalist Focus: Gabrielle Teare

Gabrielle Teare is a celebrity fashion stylist, London personal shopper and an international fashion writer. Read on to find out more about her fashion and beauty blog, the various titles that she contributes to and her view on working with PRs.

About the publication:

What do you write about?
I write about fashion and beauty products. My blog is aimed at upmarket men and women. Also we provide style advice, reviews of the shows, men’s fashion and tailoring, beauty and fashion trends. I review what to wear and what to buy now.

Where are we likely to see your work?
I am published in many international magazines and many famous websites such as ivillage, sheknows. Press includes The Daily Mail, Daily Express; I have been in Marie-Claire, Elle France, CNN, Ch4, and BBC where I regularly give interviews. I also write for fashiontv. My blog now gets 2.5m month and I have 9 page 1 Google rankings so my work is read extensively.

What’s the most memorable work you’ve done?
I worked with Disney on Confessions of a Shopaholic and have given and still give interviews internationally.

What interview or feature would you love the chance to do?
I love interviewing designers and have done many backstage interviews. I would love to interview Karl Lagerfeld! I also love testing new beauty products and trying different makeup ideas that I see backstage.

About you and PRs:

Where do you source ideas for articles?
Response Source, fashion4media, Gorkana, Diary. Most ideas are inspired by things I see fashion wise, perhaps at the shows or in the shops or at events and then write about or things I receive from the PRs. Beauty products the PRs are normally the source.

How can PRs be useful to you?
Provides inspiration, ideas, press releases, samples and invitations to press events.

How and when do you like them to get in touch?
I submit requests or answer alerts I receive.

Do you find press conferences, trips, parties and other events useful or an interruption?
I find them useful and I enjoy socialising.

If you could make one change to the way PRs deal with you, what would it be?
I think they are very professional often superbly so.

About you:

How would you pay the bills if you weren’t a journalist?
I am also a stylist and personal shopper I also run corporate styling days.

If we gave you £1000, how would you spend it?
I would buy a Givenchy suit! I see the most amazing fashion all the time as I am also a stylist, very hard not to buy it!!

What books are on your bedside table, magazines in your bag, or blogs on your screen?
I am reading Jo Nesbo The Snowman which is the best book I have read for ages. I read Vogue, In Style, Marie-Claire and Grazia. I write for loads of blogs here and in NYC so I tend to look at them. I like Jak and Jil, but it is a bit samey after a while.
