Nicola Jeal, head of magazines at The Observer, is set to become weekend editor at The Times this year.

Jeal has been at The Observer since 2003 when she joined to become editor of the Food Monthly magazine. She has been head of magazines since last year overseeing the Observer Magazine and the Food, Music, Sport and Woman Monthly titles.

Jeal will take over from Eleanor Mills who is leaving to become associate editor at the Sunday Times.
