Observer editor quits
Roger Alton, editor of the Observer newspaper for almost a decade, announced his resignation last night.
Twice named editor of the year, Alton, joined the Observer from the Guardian, where he had spent more than 20 years in roles including features editor and assistant editor.
Alton, who leaves at the end of the year, will be succeeded by his deputy John Mulholland.
Mulholland will be taking over as editor ahead of next year’s move to a new building in King’s Cross, which the Observer will share with the Guardian and Guardian Unlimited.
