Blog Spotlight with Emily Johnston, editor of Fashion Foie Gras

The power of fashion has kept Emily Johnston writing Fashion Foie Gras twenty four hours a day, seven days a week since 2009! In today's Blog Spotlight, she sheds some light on how she does it!

Tell us about your blog, how did you get started? Why did you choose your subject?

Fashion Foie Gras began as a fashion news blog. I wrote my first post thinking that I wanted this to be a place where you could get fashion news in the way in which your best friend would tell you about it. I wanted fashion to be a conversation, not a lecture.

How do you source content for your blog?

I mostly receive press releases or exclusive content from PRs. However, I also am constantly on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, looking for additional resources.

Do you write reviews? How many people read your reviews?

The blog has evolved over time to become a more lifestyle-led portal, so yes I do reviews. Fashion Foie Gras has over 350,000 hits a month so the reviews do get some great coverage from around the world.

How did you build a following for your blog?

The old fashioned way – a lot of hard work. I wrote a lot. In the beginning I was writing ten posts a day – now that number is about four to six. I also really worked hard at building a social media following. I took part in a conversation and now a lot of those first readers are good friends because of it.

Are you a PR friendly blog? Do you accept contributions and content for your blog?

I am definitely a PR friendly blog, however I write everything that goes on the site myself; no exceptions.

How best do you like to be approached by PRs?

An email is probably the easiest way to approach me as phone can be difficult. I'm in and out of meetings a lot these days and it's often more difficult to return a call when you are catching up on everything at 2am in the morning! Ha!

Blogging is great because….?

I'm my own editor-in-chief. That pretty much says it all.
