Blog Spotlight with Jacqueline Meldrum, editor of Tinned Tomatoes

Tuck into our chat with Jacqueline Medrum, editor of Tinned Tomatoes, a food blog full of vegetarian recipies. You never know, you might find something to make for dinner….

Tell us about your blog, how did you get started? Why did you choose your subject?

Tinned Tomatoes is a recipe blog featuring nearly 500 simple vegetarian and vegan recipes that all the family can enjoy. I have been vegetarian for over 20 years now, so creating a vegetarian blog was a natural choice for me.

How do you source content for your blog?

I create all my own recipes and my inspiration comes from everywhere. I may be reading a magazine or having a conversation with a friend when an idea comes to me. I might be looking at seasonal produce in a market, or just trying to use up what I have in my fridge. I cook every day, so I’m always thinking about food and what to prepare.

Do you write reviews? How many people read your reviews?

I do write reviews and my readers seem to really enjoy them. I do a monthly review post of new products I’ve tried, both those that are sent to me and those I’ve come across myself. I’ve built up a level of trust with my readers over the years, so they know I’ll only recommend a product I totally endorse.

How did you build a following for your blog?

In the first few years I built up my following by being a friendly blogger and building up friendships and relationships with other bloggers. It’s really the best way to get your name out there. Then I moved on to social media. I’ve had coverage in newspapers, magazines and on websites and I’m listed as one of the top food and parent bloggers in the UK in several listings. As well as all this, I write for Baby Centre UK and Great British Chefs.

Are you a PR friendly blog? Do you accept contributions and content for your blog?

I am a PR friendly blogger. I’m available for reviews, sponsored posts, giveaways and recipe development. I have a media pack available on request.

How best do you like to be approached by PRs?

The best way to contact me is by email.

Blogging is great because….?

I have met so many inspiring bloggers and made so many good friends. Food blogging inspires me to create new recipes and try new things. It’s a lifestyle for me now.
