Blog Spotlight with Lauren Beeslee, editor of Pretty, Posh, Oh My Gosh

Tell us about your blog, Pretty, Posh, Oh My Gosh

Felicity started the blog in Feb 2012 after finishing university and then I came on board three months later. As new graduates, we were still on tight budgets but dreaming of designer clothes so the blog is all about achieving ‘the look for less’. We both had a common love of fashion and beauty which meant that our ideas and influences came together perfectly for the blog.

How do you source content for your blog?

Everywhere. On the street. In the media. From our friends. We spend most of our spare time reading magazines, shopping online, shopping in store, reading blogs and watching videos of fashion shows online, which is where a lot of our inspiration comes from. We both agree that our mums inspire our blog a great deal, and we both think they are fashion idols – if our mum buys something great or shops somewhere we never thought about then we will often share it. More recently we have started working with PRs to find new material – we often see press releases which we find inspiring and form content around them.

Do you like to write reviews?

We love writing reviews on products and events. We have spent time and effort building up a repertoire with our followers so that our reviews are trusted by them. Our reviews are among the most viewed posts on our blog. If we get engagement from the company via social media, this also helps the reviews spread even further and helps to reach a company’s target audience even more effectively.

How did you build a following for your blog?

We have a lot of very good friends and family to thank for helping us to get the blog off of the ground. With their help, we were able to establish a following and we have been very active in social media forms to keep the blog growing. We find that working with PRs is also a great way to get people reading the blog – if we like a product, we will let a company know about a review through social media. Most recently, we were shortlisted for Best Blogging Duo in the Company Magazine 2013 Blogger Awards which was a great honour, and helped us to reach out even further to connect with new followers.

Are you a PR friendly blog? Do you accept contributions and content for your blog?

We are definitely PR friendly – maybe even the friendliest – we are always open to new suggestions! If you think that your product or event suits our blog, then we would love to hear from you. We have recently started working lots with PRs and think it’s a great way for us to find out about new products and give honest reviews of products to our readers. We do always provide honest reviews to our readers and we never do copy and pastes from press releases – we like to write our own material in our own Pretty, Posh, Oh My Gosh style.

How best do you like to be approached by PRs?

Via email is the best way – prettyposhohmygosh@gmail.com is the best way to contact us and one of us will always come back to you quickly. Each of us has our own specialism and so we will work out who is best for which contact. We also love to hear from people on Twitter too.

What’s the best thing about being a blogger in your field?

The blog lets us express our views and opinions to like-minded fashion and beauty lovers. We love hearing about new products, being the first to try them out, seeing the fashion months before it hits the stores, and all of this excitement is poured into the material which we write about on the blog. We are always so excited to get home and write posts, and we love meeting other bloggers and PRs at events to hear about the exciting work that they are doing. We also love blogging as a duo – there is always someone to give a second opinion or to sound an idea out with – we both agree that there is nothing better than blogging with your best friend!
