This week’s focus interview is with freelance journalist Bernice de Braal…
About your journalism:
What do you write about?
Child protection, education, family health, the Internet, London living and gadgets.
Where are we likely to see your work?
Right Start, Journal of Family Healthcare, School Health, Information World Review, The Snippet and iVillage.
What’s the most memorable work you’ve done?
Writing what I thought would be a straightforward piece for Practical Parenting, exploring whether boys or girls are easier to raise. The impassioned debate that raged between my friends over this feature was unforgettable!
What interview or feature would you love the chance to do?
I know I’m not alone in wanting to meet Richard Dawkins and find out more about how we can publicise humanism in the UK.
How would you pay the bills if you weren’t a journalist?
I’d love to own a bookshop. I’m thinking along the lines of Black Books rather than Waterstones, though! If Bill Bailey would come and work in it, my life would be complete.
If you could time travel what time would you go to?
Since I love sci-fi, it’s got to be in the future. Maybe 2200, so I could fly to the moon.
What books are on your bedside table, magazines in your bag, or blogs on your screen?
CAMRA’s ‘Good Beer Guide 2010’ is on my bedside table and I’m also skimming through Julian Fellowes’ ‘Snobs.’ Charlie Brooker’s ‘Screen burn’ column in The Guardian is my all-time favourite.
