BFBS Radio and BBC Radio 1 awarded for link-up
BBC Radio 1 and BFBS (British Forces Broadcasting Service) have received a special President’s Award at the inaugural Royal British Legion Friends of the Forces Awards.
This was given in recognition of ten hour link-up on 31 May which saw BFBS and Radio 1 join live with BFBS’s Camp Bastion studio on the ground in Afghanistan, across the UK and with British armed forces around the globe.
From 9am to 7pm, BFBS presenters at the Camp Bastion studios linked live with BBC 1 with messages, banter and a slice of Forces life in Afghanistan. From noon to 2pm, the entire Forces world in more than 20 countries joined in for a simulcast, including the UK Forces audience listening to BFBS Radio on DAB, and the wider UK audience on BBC Radio 1.
