The Times’ chief political commentator, Peter Riddell, is to leave as part of the paper’s cost-cutting measures.

It was announced earlier this month that The Times was offering voluntary redundancy to up to 40 staff who wanted it. Staff who have agreed to leave include Riddell, online business reporter Michael Herman and industrial correspondent Angela Jameson.

Riddell is leaving to go freelance after nearly twenty years at the paper. Herman will leave at the end of summer.
