BBC Radio 1 to go audio-visual with BBC iPlayer channel
BBC Radio 1 is to have its own channel on BBC iPlayer, the corporation's video-on-demand service.
The platform will enable viewers to watch exclusive BBC Radio 1 content which is not broadcast on the BBC's television channels.
Content will include music performances featured in Radio 1's Live Lounge and the station's Big Weekend festival, celebrity interviews and online features such as Scott Mills' Innuendo Bingo. There are also plans for the channel to carry live events including the BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards and BBC Radio 1Xtra Live.
The BBC has stated that the biggest consumers of Radio 1 video clips are girls aged between 13 and 17 years old.
