BBC News confirms senior editorial appointments

BBC News has appointed Kamal Ahmed as Editorial Director. Currently Economics Editor, Kamal will be responsible for shaping the BBC’s future editorial strategy, focusing on storytelling and explanatory journalism, and providing the link between audience research and BBC output.

BBC News has also named Gavin Allen as Head of News Output, moving from his current role as Controller of Daily News Programmes. Gavin will be responsible for a multimedia daily news output and programmes team, which replaces the separate Daily News Programmes, Channels, and the daily Mobile and Online teams.

Both these roles commence in the autumn.

The moves come as part of a restructure to the News Group Board. Fiona Campbell will move into the newly-created role of Digital Director.
